The COMING OUT exhibition is a unique artistic initiative that has already become a part of the cultural calendar of Warsaw. The Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw steps out of its walls into the urban space, showcasing its most valuable assets – the most interesting diploma works of its graduates. The event is not only an element of promoting young art, but also an annual informal gathering of creators: renowned artist-teachers, graduates, and students of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts.

In 2020, the year of the pandemic, creating the exhibition space was double challenging: we had to consider all pandemic restrictions and adapt the visitor path to virtual sightseeing that was to become the most frequented way of visiting the exhibition.

The space was placed in Koneser – Praga Center and was spread across smaller buildings within this post-industrial complex. Therefore, we designed both the wayfinding system and the exhibition system.

The basic module of the system consisted of black coated painted profiles and MDF dyed in the mass. Due to the wide variety of works presented (sculpture, scenography, fashion, ceramics, painting etc.) we had to create separate spaces for some artworks and consider individual lighting requirements.
